Ricardo Lemvo (born September 3, 1957) is a singer of Angolan descent who lives in Los Angeles, California. His music is a blend of African soukous, kizomba, samba and Cuban salsa. Lemvo grew up in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he first encountered and enjoyed Cuban music. He moved to the United States at age 15 to continue his education. He graduated from Lawndale High School and later from California State University, Los Angeles with a bachelor's degree in Political Science

But none have gone the route as seamlessly as transplanted Zairean vocalist Richard Lemvo, who assembles a killer salsa band in Los Angeles. In the manner of legendary Cuban bandleader Beny More, Lemvo does the mambo, cha-cha-cha, and rumba proud (More's "Yiri Yiri Bon" closes this disc). Even better, he hits hard at soukous with such stellar Zairean guests as vocalists Sam Mangwana and Nyboma, superstar guitarist Syran M'Benza, and other luminaries.

one killer cut after another. - Jacob Edgar, The Beat, Vol. 15 4, 1996. It's original, hot and total groove. - College Music Journal (CMJ), Sept. TATA MASAMBA is a powerful mix of soukous and salsa. - Chuy Varela, San Francisco Bay Guardian, June 4, 1997.

Ricardo Lemvo - Tata Masamba. Artist: Ricardo Lemvo. Album: Shall We Salsa, 2007. This cut is from the CD Tata Masamba(1996). Ricardo Lemvo is from the African country of Zaire but is based in Los Angeles, California. He plays music which is a fusion of African Soukous rhythms and Latin Ameican rhythms. Charlie Palmieri said of his other CD Mambo yo-yo(1998) that if the title song does not make you want to dance, then you died two weeks ago and no one told you.

He moved to the United States at age 15 to pursue his studies. After earning a bachelor degree in political science from Cal State Los Angeles, Lemvo planned to study law, but changed his mind to dedicate himself to his first love, music. He formed Makina Loca in 1990 with the goal of blending Congolese soukous and rumba with Cuban salsa.

Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loca: A blend of Cuban and African Music. On a personal level, I owe Albert an enormous debt of gratitude. In 1996 when I released my first album Tata Masamba, it was he who introduced my music to the Latin audience here in Los Angeles. He also booked my band at the Sportsmen’s Lodge, at Grant Park, and in many other venues. He was the one who recommended me to film director Randa Haines, and as a result, my band Makina Loca was featured in the movie Dance With Me starring Chayanne and Vanessa Williams.
