This excursion into the vaults of Apollo Records yields some marvelous doo wop moments. The Delroys' "Bermuda Shorts" features "rap" slang some 50 years before it came into vogue, and the Cellos' "Rang Tang Ding Dong (I Am the Japanese Sandman)" is one of the great nonsense vocal-group recordings of all time.

In the spring of 1860, they hired Bret Harte as e ditor and he focused on making it a more literary publication. He had previously published his first poem in the Golden Era in 1857 and, in October of that same year, his first prose piece on "A Trip Up the Coast"
