Sabrina Carpenter's second album "EVOLution" is a very big improvement from her overly generic debut "Eyes Wide Open". Ditiching that ukele-pop sound, she definitely has alot more of an appealing personality here. Best of all, it contains alot better qualities. First, the lyrics. They're noticeably better, containing more unique lines and metaphors, which is surprising for this technically being a Disney record. Second, the production. "EVOLution" leans down the more house / dance music road, which is also surprising, but Sabrina's vocals fit the genre really well. There's still hints of her roots showing in some moments, such as the lead single "On Purpose", "Run And Hide" and "All We Have Is Love". Although, they're alot more deeper and richer than anything on her debut. Standout moments would be the most beautiful, "Run And Hide", which, musically, is basically her version of Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself", except alot more emotional. Containing a beautiful, atmospheric, and melodic guitar arrangement, it is definitely a standout, breakthrough moment for her. "Feels Like Loneliness", which is a unique spunky track that contains an odd blend of vintage blues verses with a reggaepop-tinged chorus. Then finally, "No Words" and "Mirage", which are both amazing atmospheric house influenced tracks that feel very emotional and free thanks to the unique blend of Sabrina's vocals and synth arrangements that create overall unique, melancholy atmospheres. Overall though, "EVOLution" is a great step forward, and definitely has alot more replayability than her debut. While she still may lack in having a particularly distinctive style, or extreme memorability, this album is surprisingly a very enjoyable listen.RATING- 6 / 10---------------------------------------------Track Picks:On PurposeFeels Like LonelinessThumbsNo WordsRun And HideMirage---------------------------------------------(ALBUM PICK)---------------------------------------------
