Rest At Worlds End ‎(CD, Album, Dig). Rest At Worlds End ‎(2xLP, Ltd).

On their third album, the keyboard/drum duo Humcrush continue following their very distinct muse, with songs reaching everywhere, from the organ flights of fancy of Korla Pandit and Raymond Scott to the realms of glitch techno and dark ambient without sounding like any one specific style - a multiplicity that works wonders

Regardless, Humcrush's Rest at Worlds End is a testament to percussionist Thomas Strønen and keyboardist Ståle Storløkken's ability to create improvised pieces of often unexpected form and heightened beauty, all the while exploring the otherworldly soundscapes that make Humcrush another fine sonic innovator alongside Supersilent (of which Storløkken is a charter member) and Food (one of Strønen's many projects). despite remaining distinctly uncommon in approach.

Humcrush is yet another of these collaborative organisms spawned from cryptic, hybrid strains. The scattered dialects of the bands’ members stem from their diverse pasts. Stale Storlokken is a founding member of the troupe Supersilent, and Thomas Stronen has worked with ensembles that include Food, Maria Kannegaard Trio, and Parish. 1. Stream 2. Edingruv 3. If there’s a Rune Grammofon supergroup it’s Humcrush, the collaboration between Norwegian avant-keyboardist Stale Storlokken and percussionist Thomas Stronen. So the expectation, prior to listening to their third album Rest at Worlds End, is for meticulous improvisations with rigorous dissection of harmony and rhythm. They don’t disappoint, yet in doing so they somehow miss that spark of invention, of frenzied tangential discovery, that improvisation promises.
