Our first two volumes consist of a Sue's Greatest Hits story, and a look at the wealth of blues and rock'n'roll that was introduced to the UK's music fan by the label. Volume 3 concentrates on Sue's amazing soul records

Like the first two volumes in this series, this collects a bunch of singles issued on the British Sue label in the 1960s - some, but far from all, of them licensed from the American Sue label. This is more soul music-centered than its predecessors, and indeed it's a pretty wide, if somewhat haphazard, sampling of American soul singles from 1959-1967. There's no real theme to the anthology other than the appearance of all 25 tracks on the . Sue label, which might make it a little bewildering, except to those British listeners with nostalgic memories of the original Sue releases.

UK Sue put out many different styles of music in its five year life span, but it’s probably better remembered for soul music than for anything else. Indeed, the label’s first and last releases were all soul). The UK Sue label was run for Island Records as a subsidiary by Guy Stevens (1943-1981) and took its name from the US label run by Juggy Murray, whose records it released in the UK. Guy, a club deejay with an obsessive love of rock and roll, R'n'B, ska, jazz and soul, used the label to put out obscure American singles not only from the US Sue group of labels, but from any number of tiny independent record companies and some of the bigger ones.

The American Ace label, run out of Jackson Mississippi by shrewd record man Johnny Vincent, was a veritable sweet shop of great 50s and early 60s music. Thus it was that UK Ace was able to successfully mine Vincent’s trove of musical treasures and that Ted, Roger and expert Ray Topping were able to compile – among other things – five fabulous volumes of The Ace Story. These original albums stayed in catalogue for years, until the deal ran out and Vincent decided to take his catalogue elsewhere.
