Reconsider Me: The Love Songs (2006). Singles from The Wind. The Wind is the twelfth and final studio album by American singer-songwriter Warren Zevon. The album was released on August 26, 2003, by Artemis Records. Zevon began recording the album shortly after he was diagnosed with inoperable pleural mesothelioma (a cancer of the lining of the lung), and it was released just two weeks before his death on September 7, 2003. The album was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Songs from the album were nominated.

Zevon recorded the album after being informed that he had only months to live, and the record produced some of his most heartfelt, heartrending work: Will you stay with me till the end/When there’s nothing left but you and me/And the wind? he sings on Please Stay. That song, with its doleful sax and Zevon’s plaintive vocal, could make even those with the hardest heart bust out the Kleenex. Finally, there’s the four earlier-Zevon tracks, each representing a different album. While a lot of Reconsider Me is damn good, it’s not sufficiently representative of the quality (or quantity) of Zevon’s love songs. If you’re new to Zevon’s music and/or interested in hearing more of it, this CD is not the place to start. Instead, try Genius: The Best of Warren Zevon, or, if you can afford it, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead: An Anthology (both on Rhino).

Lucky (or unlucky at times) for me, his love songs were the tangible echoes of his capacity to love even when I could not be near him. I can recall as a young girl of 6 or 7 sitting in my mother’s rocking chair hugging the vinyl album cover to Excitable Boy as "Accidentally, Like a Martyr" and "Tenderness on the Block" brought streams of tears to my eyes  . I heard this album while visiting a friend, and decided I needed a copy for myself. It hasn't disappointed. One person found this helpful.

Warren Zevon went to his grave with most people thinking of him as "that 'Werewolves of London' guy," an image that short-changed both his talent and his legacy.
