Aquarium or Akvarium (Russian: Аква́риум; often stylized as Åквариум) is a Russian rock group formed in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg, Russia) in 1972. The band had many member changes over its 40-year history, and at the end the only remaining original member was lead singer and founder Boris Grebenshchikov. Former band members have included Anatoly Gunitsky, Mikhail Feinstein, Dyusha Romanov, Vsevolod Gackel, and Sergey Kuryokhin.

AQUARIUM are a legendary Russian rock band, formed by lti-instrumentalist Boris Grebenshikov in Leningrad in 1972, along with Anatoly Gunitsky, poet and playwright. In the 70's rock was banned in the communist Soviet Union, so rock bands were forced to remain underground and could not record albums. This is a wonderful Russian folk album that should be appealing to everyone. The music is beautiful and mesmerising.

With a history spanning over 40 years, Aquarium is one of Russia’s most successful bands. Since 1972, when the band was first formed, there have been several changes in the band lineup. Originally, their lyrics were typical of Russian rock of the time, centered around themes such as social protest and the hype of rock and roll, but from 1990, Christianity, patriotism and nationalism became important to the band members and were often featured in their songs. Watch: Alisa – Rodina (Homeland). Moscow is the home city of Aria, a highly influential heavy metal band formed in 1985.
