The Johnny Cash albums discography chronicles the output of one of the most prolific recorded music artists of all time, singer Johnny Cash. His lengthy career, spanning 1954 to 2003, included the release of 96 albums on several record labels. Over the years, Cash also collaborated with many of the industry's most notable artists, and received many awards and accolades from different organizations.

When Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash passed, they left behind what John Carter Cash, their son and Johnny Cash: Forever Words co-producer, describes as a "monstrous amassment" of things, including a treasure trove of undiscovered material that includes Johnny Cash's handwritten letters, poems and documents, penned.

Unchained, also known as American II: Unchained, is the second album in Johnny Cash's American Recordings series (and his 82nd overall). It was released on November 5, 1996, by American Recordings. Like all of Cash's albums for American Recordings, Unchained was produced by Rick Rubin. The album received a Grammy for Best Country Album and Cash was nominated for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his version of "Rusty Cage".

Here we go. For a change, Madacy does it right and pops the Johnny Cash Sun material - 40 tracks' worth - into a three-disc box set (yes, it could have fit on two) and lets the punters have at it. The single advantage, perhaps, of purchasing this set over the Columbia one is simply price. The Legacy set has more documentation, and looks better, but it also covers more of Cash's career.

Johnny Cash had different backing bands, tried different approaches and went through some turbulent periods in his personal life, but somehow he never lost touch with who he was, both as a creative artist and as a human being. The second great prison recording by Johnny Cash to feature in my top 10, featuring his classic late 60s backing band. This album was the follow-up to the best-selling and critically acclaimed: At Folsom and was released in 1969. The live performance was also filmed by Britain’s Granada . and clips of the concert feature in the documentary they made about Cash.

Johnny Cash: Forever Words – a collaborative album featuring Johnny Cash‘s unknown poetry, lyrics and letters – will be released on April 6th via Legacy Recordings. The icon’s words will be set to music and performed by an all-star lineup that includes Chris Cornell, Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello, Rosanne Cash and John Mellencamp, among others
