The Remedy is Kurt Rosenwinkel's seventh album as a leader. It is a 2-disc album recorded live at the Village Vanguard in January 2006. All songs were written by Rosenwinkel except "Myrons World," which was written by Mark Turner. All of the tracks feature the band taking extended solos.
It's been a couple of years since Kurt Rosenwinkel's previous release, Deep Song (Verve Music Group, 2005). But as one of modern jazz's most dynamic guitarists, having earned respect and applause from critics and fans, he's back with the stellar double CD, The Remedy: Live at the Village Vanguard.
For electric guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel's seventh offering, he has taken the challenge of recording live at the hallowed Village Vanguard in NYC, written new music for the occasion, put together a dynamic backup band, and offers lengthy composed music foundations followed by extensive solo discourses. As usual, Rosenwinkel's style is an interwoven, complex fabric of melodies and harmonies that seem brighter and luminous, yet have an inward and insular confidence that belies a more mysterious nature
Music is the remedy, replies Kurt Rosenwinkel. It’s hard to imagine a more suitable title, then, for the guitarist’s brilliant new album, The Remedy: Live at the Village Vanguard. With this two-disc release, Rosenwinkel puts forward his entry in a long line of historic live recordings from the famed New York jazz club, following in the footsteps of John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins, Keith Jarrett, Joe Henderson, Woody Shaw and others.

Kurt Rosenwinkel on guitar, with Mark Turner on saxophone, performing Tuesday night at the Village Vanguard. One of the improvisational trademarks of the guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel is a high, pinging long tone followed by a briskly descending glissando. It’s a dazzling gesture, the sort of thing that elicits whoops and envious murmurs from the musicians in the room. But he makes it seem no more difficult than trailing a finger across a row of percussive bar chimes. The feeling of effortlessness is a big component of his technique. Recorded two years ago, it features his working band at the time, with the tenor saxophonist Mark Turner and a rhythm section.
