End of the Century is the fifth studio album by the American punk rock band the Ramones, released on February 4, 1980, through Sire Records. The album was the band's first produced by Phil Spector, though he had offered the band his assistance earlier in their career. With Spector fully producing the album, it was the first release that excluded original member Tommy Ramone, who in 1978 left the band but produced their previous album Road to Ruin.

The rest of the album isn't quite so dreamy. But as the Aquarium widens its palette to include frantic pop, heavy rock, and circus-like tunes, the hypnosis of those opening tracks persists. Hutto coaxes winding melodies from his keys, while Harris's beats animate the songs like adrenaline filling veins. On the surface, the group's chugging sound recalls early Quasi. All of which makes it a surprise that that this album is on Dischord. punk label has certainly broadened in recent years. But compared to more adventurous peers, its punk-based roster is still narrow, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anything this poppy and fun among Dischord's "records and stuff we sell. The intensely hooky "Waiting for the Girl" even takes the catchiness too far; you might end up annoyed by how hard it is to erase the track's vocal melody from memory.

Welcome to Aquarium Pula, where in a unique way the richness of the Adriatic is combined with the centennial military history of Pula. The Aquarium is situated within the 130-year-old fort Verudela, once part of the powerful defence complex Fortress Pula built during the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy. The historical fort is nowadays inhabited by hundreds of fish species from the northern and the southern portions of the Adriatic and several tropical marine and fresh water species, as well as fish from Croatian lakes and rivers.
Surprisingly, End of the Century doesn’t sound like the end of the world overdubbed on twenty-four tracks in some airless Los Angeles studio. Though there’s an abundance of overdubbing (and even some outside assistance from saxophonist Steve Douglas and former Electric Flag keyboardist Barry Goldberg), Spector lets the Ramones speak for themselves. These are End of the Century‘s finest tracks, and they’d be magic moments on any self-respecting radio station. Whether or not they’ll actually take up serious residence on the airwaves is obviously a source of continuing concern to the band.
2050s to the end of the century: The US and Canada begin to disintegrate into regional polities. Nation-states established during times of colonial partition, cheap energy, and abundant natural resources no longer make sense, and civil wars erupt like brushfires. No more Winter Olympics and soon no more Olympics period-too expensive, no country wants them, too many ruined venues of the past, too hot in the summer & too little snow in the winter. Winter Olympics is the first to go by 2040's or so. Very hot summers, spring arrives a good month and a half earlier than in the 80's.
