In the Beginning is the second live album by Stevie (Ray) Vaughan and Double Trouble (the stage name at that time did not include Vaughan's middle name). While the album was released about two years after Vaughan's death in 1990, the actual performance took place on April 1, 1980 at Steamboat 1874 in Austin, Texas, and was broadcast live on KLBJ-FM radio.

Stevie Ray Vaughan ‎– Don't Mess With Texas CD artwork says "Live in Austin 1978" but this is actually live in Austin Texas from April 1, 1980. Reply Notify me Helpful.

In the Beginning is the second live album by Stevie (Ray) Vaughan and Double Trouble (the stage name at that time did not include Vaughan's middle name). A 25-year-old Vaughan, still more than three years away from the release of his first studio album, performs with his "Double Trouble" bandmates: Chris Layton, drummer, and Jackie Newhouse, bassist. Newhouse was replaced.

Stephen "Stevie" Ray Vaughan (October 3, 1954 – August 27, 1990) was an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. In spite of a short-lived mainstream career spanning seven years, he is widely considered one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of blues music, and one of the most important figures in the revival of blues in the 1980s. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Vaughan began playing guitar at the age of seven, inspired by his older brother Jimmie. In 1971 he dropped out of high school, and moved to Austin the following year. He played gigs with numerous bands, earning a spot in Marc Benno's band, the Nightcrawlers, and later with Denny Freeman in the Cobras, with whom he continued to work through late 1977.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble released 'Texas Flood,' their double-platinum debut album, on June 13, 1983. The album, which arrived on June 13, 1983, was actually completed in just two days. They spent the first day setting up the equipment – but not because they thought they were about to record what became a double-platinum, genre-reviving blues classic. We were just making tape," drummer Chris Layton told Guitar World in 2008. We hoped that maybe we were making a demo that would actually be listened to by a real record company. They'd gotten to this point just as quickly, following a breakout performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in the summer of 1982.
