Route 66 travels the iconic road from its inception, through the Great Depression, to its heyday as a travel destination, and its decline and eventual displacement by the Interstate Highway System. The exhibition concludes with a contemporary look at the road and the movement for its preservation. The songs he wrote about the Dust Bowl were based in large part on his experiences along Route 66. A very nice museum with lots of High Desert Route 66 information and displays. This is also a must stop and see if you are interested in old Barstow, Route 66, Harvey House history or old rail road stuff. We picked up lots of free useful information on high desert route 66 and other local attractions. The staff were helpful and informative about the recent closures of 66 due to being warshed out during a storm. This took a little over 1 hour to see. Date of experience: February 2015.
