To mark the 20th anniversary of her remarkable 1996 debut, Revival, Gillian Welch and perennial collaborator Dave Rawlings sifted through their vault. The dusty Americana tracks here are deeply rewarding: There are strikingly tweaked alternate versions of album cuts; raw, revelatory demos that have the faint whiff of unearthed front-porch recordings; and a trove of contemporaneous covers, jams, and other gems. Collectively, they offer insight into Welch’s evolution as a singer, songwriter, and performer, and into her invaluable partnership with Rawlings.

To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Gillian Welch's landmark debut album, Revival, Acony Records proudly presents Boots N. : The Official Revival Bootleg. This generous companion to the Grammy-nominated release features 21 outtakes, alternate versions, and demos from the making of Revival, including 8 previously unheard songs. Personally curated and produced by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings and mined from their extensive vault of analog tape recordings, this beautiful collection is essential listening for Gillian Welch fans and music lovers everywhere.

Gillian Welch, right, pictured here with partner Dave Rawlings, will release a new album, 'Boots No. 1 The Official Revival Bootleg,' on Nov. 25. (Henry Diltz). Appalachian old-time, folk and string-band music has too often been heard as the crude, naturalistic output of unstudied musicians who operate primarily on instinct. No duo has more profoundly recast those expectations over the last two decades than Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, who've mainly performed under her name. On occasions when he sings lead, they're the Dave Rawlings Machine instead
