Paul Brady - Hard Station. Classic Irish Albums Series 2. Ralph McLean talks to Paul Brady about his acclaimed 1981 breakthrough album Hard Station, which saw the Strabane man move away from folk and into the musical mainstream.

When Planxty disbanded in late 1975, Brady formed a duo with Irvine from 1976 to 1978, a partnership that produced the hugely successful album, Andy Irvine/Paul Brady, which garnered much critical acclaim. The next few years saw him establish his popularity and reputation as one of Ireland's best interpreters of traditional songs. His versions of ballads like "Arthur McBride" and "The Lakes of Pontchartrain" were considered definitive and are still popular at concerts today

Biography by Leon Jackson. Singer/songwriter who played in Irish folk groups in the '70s before embarking on a decades-long solo career in more polished pop/rock. Songs & Crazy Drea. aul Brady. The Missing Liberty Ta. Nobody Knows: The Bes. ee Full Discography.

Paul Brady is an extremely skilled musician which is clear to anyone who has heard him play and sing together with Andy Irvine. This is my favorite pop/rock album with Paul and the only thing to complain about is that several of these recordings do not display the same power in energy and emotion as his live performances of these songs. The song-writing is still pretty good, saving the best for last with “Nothing but the same old story”. Give that specific song a listen, to me it’s very moving.
