I am so happy that they also like to perform in Moscow and we have the opportunity to hear them live)) This is a many-sided album, not only free-jazz, not only jazzcore, but also modern jazz, free improvisation and experimental music. So expressive, energetic, and musical album!
The trio debut album was recorded in Stockholm on July 2013. Its energetic spirit was captured beautifully by saxophonist Jonas Kullhammar, who mixed and mastered the album. It begins with a climatic storm, literally, as the title piece means storm in Japanese. Sakata leads again with a warm and soulful clarinet solo. Berthling and Nilssen-Love patiently intensify the contemplative spirit of this piece with spare, imaginative playing until the three unite again for a stormy, ceremonial coda with Sakata chanting a farewell. This trio plans a Japanese tour this fall, hopefully, will yield more releases by these brilliant and powerful musicians. Personnel: Akira Sakata: alto saxophone, clarinet, voice; Johan Bertling: double bass; Paal-Nilssen-Love: drums, percussion. Title: Arashi Year Released: 2014 Record Label: Trost Records.
Akira Sakata : alto saxophone, clarinet, voice Johan Berthling : double bass Paal Nilssen-Love : drums, percussion. Recorded by Dagge Lundquist at Decibel Studios, Stockholm, Sweden, on 19th of July 2013. Avant-garde veteran Akira Sakata (Last Exit) teams up with Johan Berthling (Fire! Orchestra and Angles 9) and Paal Nilssen-Love (The Thing) for a crazily enthused set up tunes that sounds like more intensity than a trio of alto sax, drums, and bass should be able to summon up. This is music that, initially, makes the listener sit back in shock, then, as the ear has time to acclimate, slowly get into all the fun that this session has to offer.
