A new high point in the first Schütz Complete recording: very little secular music by Heinrich Schütz survives today. His songs and wedding music are a precious proof of his masterly madrigalian artistry, a skill which he acquired during his years studying in Venice. A brilliant conclusion to the first Heinrich Schütz complete recording: With the Psalmen & Friedensmusiken (Psalms & Music for Peace), Hans-Christoph Rademann and the Dresdner Kammerchor bring this groundbreaking project to a magnificent close. The recording features mostly unknown, but particularly sumptuous and mostly multi-choral works, which Schütz wrote between 1618 and 1648 for important political occasions or thanksgiving celebrations. Groups of soloists and choristers create a colorful sound experience in interplay with strings, trombones, cornetts and viols.

Ensemble: Dresdner Kammerchor. Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann. Ich Hebe Meine Augen Auf. Ensemble: Cappella Sagittariana Dresden.

The Dresdner Kammerchor and the Dresdner Barockorchester under Hans-Christoph Rademann are joined by distinguished soloists including Dorothee Mields and Stephan MacLeod, leading international exponents in the area of d performance practice. Orchestra: Dresdner Kammerchor, Dresdner Barockorchester. Heinrich Schütz's twenty-six psalm settings of 1619 form an impressive collection. They’re also remarkably difficult to bring off well on disc, as has been shown in a number of recordings over the years. Of course the pieces were never intended to be heard all in one go; it would be a brave undertaking, for example, to perform them all in one two-and-a-half-hour concert. On disc, the weight of the master's structures and the richness of his sonorities can become oppressive, and it's probably not a great idea to listen to them all in one go.
