Kiss the Sky Tatyana Ali. Pop. 1998. Listen on Apple Music. Tatyana Ali, Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz. 6. Love the Way You Love Me. 5:02.

Kiss the Sky is the only studio album by American singer and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air actress Tatyana Ali. The album was released in August 1998, peaking at on the Billboard 200 and on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album produced the top ten Billboard Hot 100 hit "Daydreamin', as well as the smash hit UK single "Boy You Knock Me Out", and the ballad "Everytime". The album was certified Gold in early 1999, however, did not sell as well as expected, and as such, Ali was dropped from the label in late 1999.

The album starts off quite well : a funny intro, and a good song (though "you knock me out is just an overdub of Bobby Calwell's famous "What you won't do for love", of which tons of cover versions have been made). Tatyana's talent is at it's best on those two songs. This album has upbeat songs as well as ballads. I must say i'm not the greatest fan of Celine Dion types (sorry!) but the ballads on this album are great. I'm certainly impressed.

Back in 98' this album was my guilty pleasure. It wasn't the greatest material out there but there were a good selection of catchy tracks like 'Boy You Knock Me Out', 'If You Only Knew' and 'Daydreaming'. They just had this infectious vibe to them that really made you feel good. After hearing those songs before I had the album I thought it would just continue along those same lines but it takes a big turn after 'Love The Way You Love Me' and not the way I was hoping. It becomes a strictly ballad album and it kinda killed the pace for me. I went from singing along and really enjoying myself to being a bit bored with the very slow atmosphere that it had suddenly created. The slow jams that are on display here are a pretty good effort after you adjust to the tempo and mood swing and I did enjoy a few of them like 'Kiss The Sky' 'If I Ever Love Again' and the duet with Chico DeBarge 'Yesterday'. I think the problem for me was that there were so many great artists coming out with something better and sung with much better voices that this release got buried in the collection. As a first effort though this was really solid and enjoyable. If she continued her career in music and worked on her vocals she could of been something great, instead were left with yet another one hit album wonder.
