After 17 years and six albums, veteran Seattle-based indie-rock band Minus the Bear have announced that they are disbanding after a farewell tour this fall. After almost two decades of writing and touring the world together, we have decided to close this chapter of our lives as Minus the Bear. What started as a silly inside joke inside the dingy confines of Seattle’s original Cha Cha Lounge back in 2001 quickly snowballed into years of adventures, creativity, and friendship. We could have never predicted the wild journey about to begin. We’ve accomplished so much over the past 17 years, and we are grateful for the experience. Undoubtedly we owe all of these adventures to you, our fans.
Seattle based math rock stalwarts Minus The Bear have sadly announced that they will be breaking up after 17 years together as a band.
Minus the Bear’s farewell tour will be split into two legs. The first launches October 9th at 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville, Tennessee and wraps October 28th at Irving Plaza in New York City. The second begins November 27th at the Ritz Ybor in Tampa, Florida and concludes December 14th with a homecoming gig at the Showbox in Seattle.

On February 17, 2010, Dangerbird Records announced that it had signed Minus the Bear and that it would distribute the group's next release. A week later, it was announced that the album was titled Omni and that it was scheduled to be released on May 4, 2010. On May 8, 2010, Minus the Bear was the first band to be. featured on RadioVA and was interviewed by David Lowery. On August 5, 2010, Minus the Bear opened for fellow Seattle band Soundgarden in their pre-Lollapalooza warm up show at the Vic Theatre in Chicago.

Instead, Minus the Bear sound adrift, in a good way- their directionlessness opens some much-needed breathing room. On an album that's too on-message, "Part 2"'s instrumental swathes expand and contract just right. Next time Minus the Bear should rely less on safety, more on fortune.
